A press release from Porsche, Stuttgart states that the 911 GT3 has completed a lap of the Nordschleife in 7 minutes 12.7 seconds, 12.3 seconds faster than the previous GT3 model. The claim appears to be that the car was “standard”, with Michelin Pilot Sport 2N1 tires. Weight savings? It is said that even the engine cover hinges are made from carbon fibre to save 2 pounds (just under a kilo), for a total of 3150-3200 pounds. Two gearboxes are available: a six speed standard, or a 7 speed duel clutch unit, the latter being used in the record run.
The 2018 GT3 is built on the 991 platform, powered by a 3996cc flat six, all aluminum, direct fuel injected engine. Power sits at 500 HP (8250 RPM) and 339 LB-FT of torque (6000 RPM), with ability to rev up to 9000 RPM. For street use, for which the GT3 is eminently suitable, the following numbers are of significance: 0-60 MPH 3.0- 3.4 seconds (dependent on gearbox), and a standing ¼ mile of 11.1-11.5 seconds. Top speed? 198-199 MPH.
