The Radical SR8 is no race car but it has made its mark at the Green Hell. The ride is every shade a street-legal car but its design is closer to a race car than many vehicles in its category. The Radical race car made its Nurburgring times history and lapped the ring in a mere 00.06:55.0, making one of the few cars to have raced the famous tracks at below seven minutes. When the vehicle ran the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 2005 and finished at 6:55 seconds lap time and setting a record that is well out of reach of many of the vehicles in its category, the Radical racer earned its bragging right clean and clear.

The manufacturer of Radical sportscars earned a bragging right in 2005 by setting a record for its Radical SR8. Driven by Michael Vergers, the street-legal ride smashed many competition records and earned a new record for itself. The event was witnessed by the German motoring magazine, Sport Auto, and the Evo Magazine. Both confirmed the attempt and the time that ride lapped the ‘Ring.
The success of the ride could be attributed to a lot of things. The weather condition may have contributed to the whole performance as the temperatures and weather was perfect for the run. The condition for the race was also in line with the standard. The bumps, curbs, and the jumps were all part of the game and the driver handled everything well.
Unique Features of Radical SR8
The Radical racer features a 360 hp V8 engine mounted on a compact Prototype-style body. Although it has a tarmac-scraping riding height and racecar styling, the ride is absolutely street legal. Its torque comes at 271 NM (200 lb-ft) and power at 358 bhp/ 267 kW. The ride features powertrain specifications with 270 kph top speed. The Radical SR8 features a rear-wheel drive, middle engine, and standard Dunlop racing slicks. All these contributed to its performance at the Nurburgring track.
It’s important to mention that the new model of the Radical series, Radical SR8 LM, has since set a new record with a new lap time of 6:48 record time. The SR8 LM was driven by Michael Vergers from England to Germany to set a record, and within 24 hours, it sets the new lap record. According to the automaker, Radical has proven than the SR8 LM is both a race car and a practical car with real performance credentials, making it a good enough street-legal car to drive to and from the race track.
