The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG received the distinction of being the first exclusively AMG-produced sports car, creating an incredibly powered supercar. Now the Black Series is taking that original design and ramping it up even further, proving itself by taking to the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife to establish an impressive lap time.
The SLS AMG Black Series notched out a 7 minute, 26 second lap time, placing it on the list of top Ring performers. The fastest out there? Not quite, but it’s worth any driver’s attention if they want a supercar that has real power under the hood.
The SLS AMG Black Series comes with a 6.2-litre V-8 that reaches 622 horsepower with 468 lb-ft of torque, and can hit the 0-60 mark in only 3.2 seconds. This particular model comes with an aerodynamic body kit, an AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension, and seven-speed, AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission. Top speed is 196 mph.
The 7 minute, 26 second lap time places it in the ranks alongside the Ferrari Enzo, and even above the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport.
Much of the attention being focused on the SLS AMG comes from the fact that this particular model is receiving its final production sendoff. It’s getting a special edition unveiled at the LA Auto Show, called the SLS AMG Final Edition, and all limited edition models will remain in production until only February 2014. There will be no direct successor design, according to AMG, though perhaps a spiritual successor will be found in Mercedes-Benz’s SLC AMG model, destined for 2015.

Following the SLK55 AMG Black Series from 2006 (European model), the 2008 CLK63 AMG Black Series, the 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series and the 2013 C63 AMG Black Series, the fifth in the lineup sees the Black Series enter a whole new dimension with the iconic SLS AMG.”
Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, had this to say about the model:
